It's for the Kids

As most of you know, I work for a non-profit called Collin County Children's Advocacy Center. I've worked there almost two years as a Special Events Manager. My primary job is to put together special events to raise money for the center. I try my very best not to solicit family and friends for donations but becuase of these uncertain economic times I've decided to post a plea for help on the Boatwright blog. The Center is a multi-displinary team that provides services to abused and neglected children. The Center houses law enforcement, CPS, the District Attorney's office and therapy services in one location. There is a link on the right to the CCCAC and Gala website if you'd like to learn more.

In December the Center saw 700 children in therapy. In June we saw just over 1,000 kids and we are seeing an average of 15 kids a day who have allegedly been abused. We are seeing more kids than ever before and our donations have decreased. We have always prided ourselves on the fact we provide services to 100% of our clients free of charge. The Gala raises a significant portion of funds for the Center and we are relying on this event to generate the income we need to continue providing services to every client for free. All Center staff has been asked to sell at least 5 car raffle tickets to meet our Gala goals. We started our morning with some breakfast and grocery shopping at Central Market. After that, Conner had his hair cut. We decided to stay in tonight and avoid the Valentine's Day crowds at the restaraunts. We made some great Mexican food and had some yummy cupcakes.Conner & Daddy Making Chips

Happy 2nd Birthday Conner

We started the 2nd Birthday celebrations on Friday morning with an early breakfast with an egg and sausage quiche and cinnamon rolls. Conner stayed in Denton with Grand, Papa Wilson and Aunt Glenda Friday night. Saturday we had a wonderful celebration with about 25 friends and family. On the menu, Pot Belly sandwhiches and lots of cake. Conner received lots of great presents and has been playing with them ever since. Here are some pictures from the Birthday party at the zoo!

We kept Conner home Friday since our sitter and some of the other kiddos had a stomach bug. Granny B and Papa John came over Friday afternoon to babysit so I could go to work for a little while. Saturday, Conner and I went to Denton to visit Aunt Glenda and Grand. My mom hemmed some material for a tablecloth we'll be using for Conner's birthday party this Saturday. I didn't feel too well so we didn't stay long and headed back home to rest. The last couple of Sundays, Aaron has been meeting his friend Geoff and buddies to bike ride at a park in McKinney, Erwin Park. I decided to go with Aaron this Sunday and thought Conner and I could walk around while they rode. Everyone was a bit late arriving and Geoff didn't make it at all but Aaron rode with a couple of other people that had shown. Conner and I tried to walk the path which is made for mountain biking more than walking. I enjoyed it but decided next Sunday I would put Conner in the backpack instead of carrying him on my shoulders like this Sunday. It also made me want to get another bike. I sold my bike a couple of years ago, so Aaron and I are going to start looking around. We won't be able to take Conner on the bike through that park but would be able to ride in the neighborhood and some other parks in the area. Aaron went to a Superbowl party for the 1st half of the game last night and I tried to watch it while I did house work. Enjoyed the last few minutes - it was a nail biter. Conner's birthday party is this Saturday and I'm looking forward to having a house full of guests. It'll be a zoo in there! (Conner's Birthday Party theme this year is Zoo Animals).
